ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Marji Morgan has set a new goal for herself: to ride 300 miles on her bike in five days to raise money for Central Washington University.
The dean of Central's College of Arts and Humanities got the idea for the fundraiser after reading about a similar event held last summer for a veterinary clinic.
During the trip, Morgan and others will travel up to 60 miles a day, beginning in Oroville and ending in Cashmere. They will leave Ellensburg Aug. 29 and return Sept. 3.
She and other riders hope to raise $15,000, which will fund 10 student grants of $1,000 each and two faculty grants of $2,500 each.
Other participants in the ride include music professor Chris Bruya, his wife and his 9-year-old daughter, music student Birkin Owart and Teresa Joy Kramer, university writing center director. Alumni Association Director Jim Armstrong will join the group on the last day's ride over Blewett Pass.
People can sponsor riders by clicking on the Support Cycling for Arts and Humanities link on the College of Arts and Humanities Web page at www.cwu.edu/~cah.
