ELLENSBURG -- A Kittitas County man was sentenced to four months in jail for an eluding case in which authorities alleged that he ran from Cle Elum police and later reported his car stolen.
Jurors convicted 29-year-old Michael Aldridge of the Cle Elum area after a trial Monday in Kittitas County Superior Court, deputy prosecutor Paul Sander said.
Police Sgt. Monty Moore tried to stop Aldridge for traffic violations in the South Cle Elum area about 2 a.m. on Nov. 23, Sander said.
Aldridge was identified as the driver when he passed another officer involved in the pursuit. A civilian riding with that officer recognized him from their contacts around the small community, according to her testimony at trial.
Peak speeds reached upwards of 85 mph, at one point in a 35 mph zone. Aldridge abandoned his car in a church parking lot and ran away, authorities said.
In addition to the eluding charge, Aldridge was convicted of making a false statement, driving on a suspended license and possessing a misdemeanor amount of marijuana.
