NILE, Wash. --  A woman jumped from a second story window when a fire of undetermined origin destroyed her home and started a small brush fire on Clover Springs Road early this morning.

Nile Fire Chief Derek Newton estimated damage to the two-story log home at about $250,000.

Newton said the lone occupant of the home, a woman, was awakened by a smoke alarm and discovered the blaze in a bedroom.

He said the woman tossed a mattress out a second-story window and jumped to safety. She was not hurt, he said.

The house was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived at about 12:30 a.m. this morning.

Newton said the fire was extinguished about 6 a.m.

Several Upper Valley fire departments, the state Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service assisted Nile firefighters. There were no injuries.

The home is located near the north end of Nile Loop Road, he said.
