Eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 were closed at Troutdale, east of Portland, early Wednesday due to the crash of an asphalt truck driven by a Yakima man, Oregon State Police said.
The driver, identified as Serafin Lara, 54, was not injured in the 5:45 a.m. crash.
The crash occurred about 17 miles east of Troutdale near Warrendale, across the Columbia River from Stevenson, Wash.
Approximately 3,000 gallons of hot paving asphalt destined for Selah were spilled during the accident.
A state police news release said the asphalt spread on the freeway and some of the material reached McCord Creek.
The truck’s tanker trailer was carrying a total of 67,000 pounds of hot asphalt, the release said.
Police said Lara told them he was crossing a bridge over the creek when the vehicle pulled to the right and struck a concrete barrier
