DNR crews mop up after Manastash blaze

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- A fire burning on Manastash Ridge, southwest of Ellensburg, was contained at 63 acres, with mopup expected to continue through today, the state Department of Natural Resources says.

The fire was reported about 10:45 p.m. Sunday and may have been started by lightning, authorities said.

Homes were threatened, but crews managed to contain the flames, according to a DNR news release issued Monday afternoon.

The Manastash Ridge trail is closed for fire operations and public safety.

About 140 people and pieces of equipment are managing the incident. About 100 will remain for today, with overnight patrols also in place.
