YAKIMA, Wash. — A Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy reportedly shot himself in the leg this afternoon during SWAT training at the Yakima Training Center, authorities said.
The man, whose name was not released, was flown by military helicopter to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital for treatment of the non-critical wound.
A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office said the shot was believed to be accidental and came from the deputy’s own rifle. The five-year deputy has served on the SWAT team for about a year.
About two dozen Snohomish County deputies are at the training center through Tuesday for SWAT training.
