A section of State Route 24 east of Yakima was closed for a time early today when a car-semi collision blocked the road, the Washington State Patrol said.
The accident occurred at 1:50 a.m. at mile post 40, two miles west of Priest Rapids Road in Benton County.
Troopers said Celestino Matias (cq), 21, was taken to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland.
Matias, whose home town was not available, was westbound when his 1997 Volkswagen Jetta crossed the center line and struck a 2008 Peterbilt tractor. The accident blocked the eastbound lane.
Driver of the semi-tractor was identified as Gordon Huit, 37, of Moses Lake. He was not injured. Matias’ vehicle was destroyed.
The Washington Department of Transportation reopened the roadway at 4:35 this morning.
