GRANDVIEW, Wash. -- Authorities arrested a Grandview teenager they say was an accomplice to a June 10 drive-by shooting that injured a rival gang member.

Cesar Barriga, 19, was charged Friday in Yakima County Superior Court with drive-by shooting and first-degree assault, felony charges that carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

Grandview police detectives say Barriga was driving a silver pick-up around 8:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Wilson Highway. A passenger in the vehicle is believed to have pulled out a gun and shot at a 14-year-old boy who was walking to a relative’s house, according to police.

The boy was shot in the leg and treated at Prosser Memorial Hospital.

Since early May, at least 16 incidents involving gunfire have taken place in the Yakima Valley.

 One man has been killed and 10 people injured. Much of the violence has been blamed on gangs.
