OUTLOOK, Wash. -- Fire in a 700-ton haystack north of Outlook is under control, but is expected to keep burning for a few days.

Firefighters contained the fire and prevented flames from spreading to an adjacent haystack about 11 a.m. Wednesday, about nine hours after they were first called out, said Capt. Ken Robillard of the Yakima County Fire District 5.

He expects the fire to burn itself out after several days.

The fire is located at the DeRuyter and Sons Dairy at 5121 Dekker Road.

The cause is unknown but firefighters suspect spontaneous combustion.

“There was really nothing out of the ordinary,” said Capt. Bo Thomas.

Firefighters received the report at 2 a.m. Sixteen firefighters from the Outlook and Zillah stations responded.

The damage estimate is $100,000. No injuries were reported.
