ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Authorities say alcohol played a role in two separate Kittitas County mishaps that resulted in injuries to three people over the weekend.

A city of Kittitas reserve officer applicant suffered leg injuries when a car backed into a Kittitas Police Department cruiser, pinning him between the two vehicles, according to the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at 6:30 p.m. Sunday on Main Street in Kittitas as police were investigating a domestic dispute.

The unidentified applicant was taken to Kittitas Valley Community Hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries is not known, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Authorities said the 29-year-old woman driving the car that struck the applicant assaulted deputies and briefly resisted arrest. The woman was booked into the Kittitas County jail for investigation of two counts of assault, driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.

Also, two women were injured early Sunday when the car they were riding in ran off Thrall Road, west of Cleman Road.

The sheriff’s office identified the driver as Cassandra Herrick, 18, of Ellensburg. She was admitted to Kittitas Valley Community Hospital with a concussion and a broken wrist.

She faces a charge of driving under the influence. The accident occurred at 4:33 a.m.

A passenger, Amy Jongeward, 19, of Edmonds, Wash., suffered minor injuries.
