SUNNYSIDE, Wash. — A 27-year-old Grandview man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Friday night after he ran a stop sign near Sunnyside and was struck by another vehicle, the Washington State Patrol reported.
The State Patrol said Juan Aguirre Alvarez was driving a 1992 Plymouth Voyager east on Van Belle Road at about 3:30 p.m. Friday when he failed to stop at the sign. His car was struck by a 1998 Honda Accord driven by Marcela D. Perez, 41, of Grandview.
Alvarez was initially transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital and then airlifted to Harborview. His condition was not immediately available this afternoon.
Perez, who had minor injuries, was transported by a private vehicle to Sunnyside Community Hosptial, where she was treated and released.
State Patrol investigators said that alcohol was likely involved in the accident, which is still under investigation.
