ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Two Kent residents were transported to Kittitas Valley Hospital this morning after their SUV rolled into a ditch during a near-collision with a bicycle, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Accordig to the State Patrol, Larry D. Corkins, 55, of Renton, was riding his bicycle north on the right shoulder at around milepost 159 of U.S. Highway 97 when he tried to turn left, without using a hand signal, directly in the path of a 1999 Toyota 4-Runner. The driver, Mauricio Calles, 33, of Kent, avoided hitting the bicycle but overcorrected and his vehicle rolled into the ditch.
Calles and a passenger, Guadalupe Segovia, 33, also of Kent, had bumps and abrasions. The immediate condition of the pair was not immediately available this afternoon.
Corkins was not injured and was cited for failure to use a hand signal, the State Patrol said.
