Scholarships

* The Yakima Valley Human Rights Scholarship Board has announced its 2009 awards. Jose Martinez of Eisenhower High School won the four-year renewable $1,000 Mitch Weary Memorial Scholarship. Weary, a talented musician who died in March, received a YVHRS scholarship in 1981. He graduated from Central Washington University. Martinez, an artist who held a successful art show at Allied Arts for his senior project, also plans to attend CWU.

The following students received $700 each:

Davis High School: Adilene Chavez, Aracely Marin and Edwin Rainey

Eisenhower High School: Maria Castenada and Vanessa Romero

Selah High School: Adam Estela

Stanton Academy: Jennifer Delgado and Maria Verduzco.

Toppenish High School: Diego Guel and Anthony Galaviz Jr.

 

* Yakima Valley Community College: Claudia Bustos, two-year renewable $750 Jane Benoit Memorial scholarship

* Heritage University: Patricia Sanchez, $1,000 MB Rose Memorial Scholarship

Graduations

* Adrian Ramirez of Yakima received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho.

* Max Kabrich of Yakima earned a degree from University of Puget Sound, Tacoma. He majored in in business and economics and graduated cum laude and with department honors.

 

Honors

* Branden Johnson of Yakima was on the Montana State University spring semester dean's list.

 

Scholarships

* Eisen hower High School graduate Hannah Heilman of Yakima has been awarded a Scholastic Honors Scholarship for $2,500 for the 2009-10 academic year at Eastern Washington University. She hopes to major in education with a music minor.

* Darcy Morford of White Swan, a La Salle High School graduate, has been awarded the John I. Haas Scholarship. She plans to attend Carroll College in Helena, Mont., where she will study nursing.
