Wapato fire damages half of duplex

Yakima Herald-Republic

WAPATO, Wash. — One side of a Wapato-area duplex was extensively damaged by fire Monday afternoon.

Yakima County Fire District 5 units responded about 3:15 p.m. Monday to the two-story residence on Egan Lane, off North Track Road.

No one was in the duplex at the time of the fire, according to a District 5 news release issued today, and the occupant of the damaged unit was receiving help from family. The other side of the duplex was still livable, the release said.

Estimated damage is $45,000.

Capt. Landon Lommers of District 5 said the cause of the fire has not been determined, but it did not appear to be suspicious. The Yakima County fire marshal is investigating.
