Police searching for hit-and-run driver

Yakima Herald-Republic

YAKIMA, Wash. — A Wapato man injured in a possible hit-and-run remained in critical condition Tuesday night in the intensive care unit at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center, and a Washington State Patrol investigator said it’s uncertain if the man was hit by a pickup or fell out of the back of the truck.

Trooper Travis Lamb said investigators have been unable to speak with the injured man, Forrest Howard.

Lamb said the only witness at the scene Monday night saw a black pickup with people riding in the back and Howard on the ground near the intersection of U.S. Highway 97 and Progressive Road. But because the person didn’t actually see the pickup hit Howard, it’s possible he could have fallen out of the truck, Lamb said.

In either case, the state patrol is looking for the driver of the pickup, which left the scene.

Anyone with information about the incident or the truck is asked to call 509-249-6742.
