YAKIMA, Wash. -- Westbound traffic on West Washington Avenue at Third Avenue is being detoured while police investigate a bicycle-vehicle accident that sent a 37-year-old man to a Yakima hospital in critical condition, Yakima police said.

Eastbound traffic is flowing as of 3:45 p.m.

The accident occurred about 1:15 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Washington Avenue, just west of the intersection with Third Avenue.

Police said the man, riding a bicycle, attempted to cross Washington Avenue outside of the crosswalk.

The bicycle struck an eastbound delivery vehicle that was moving into the turn lane.

The bicyclist was taken to Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center.
