YAKIMA, Wash. — A climber who became separated from two companions and got lost in whiteout conditions on Mount Adams walked out on his own Monday, the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office said this morning in a news release.

The 32-year-old hiker, whose identity and hometown were not released, connected with a mountain rescue vehicle at the Morrison Creek trail head Monday morning, the release said.

Search and rescue and Forest Service personnel then climbed to where the two companions were located in the Pikers Peak area and escorted them off the mountain.

None of the hikers was injured.

According to the release, the lost hiker used his cell phone to contact Skamania County about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. County rescue personnel were able to obtain some information from the hiker before his cell phone battery died.
