YAKIMA, Wash. -- Bill Lover had this to say today about Ben Soria, the soon-to-retire Yakima school Superintendent who is challenging Lover for his seat on the Yakima City Council.
“The last thing we need in City Hall is another bureaucrat,” he quipped.
Lover apologized for being unavailable for comment Friday, the day Soria’s surprise entry into the council race had City Hall buzzing. Two others, T.J. Davis and Mitchell Smith, are also gunning for Lover’s seat.
Lover said he has no doubt that campaign spending will grow as a result of the crowded field, which will be winnowed from four to two in the Aug. 18 primary.
He also said that he looks forward to a “vigorous” debate of the issues, and characterized the differences between himself and Soria as “vision vs. critical thinking.”
In saying that, he explained that he sees himself as the critical thinker. Soria has criticized some members of the council, including Lover, of being reticent to new ideas like the aquatic center.
“Hopefully he’ll have some of his own (issues) and not just react to me,” Lover said.
-- Chris Bristol
Lover calls himself a "critical thinker"? Are you kidding me? Maybe on Mars-but his ramblings and talking in circles could cofuse an ameba.
Report ViolationCritical thinking?! HAHA! When was the last time Lover added ANYTHING to the dialogue at city hall? He's been on council long enough now and it has become clear he's out of his league.
Report ViolationLover is the smartest member of the council. Mayor Redler is all about emotion and reacting in the moment. He can't even see past his own questions. Lover can see about ten moves ahead. Lover has the taxpayer's back. @#$% win with about 60%.
Report ViolationAt least Lover thinks for himself and he's not quick to spend our money. Soria would be another disciple for Edler. He'd jump on the EMS "who cares what the voting public thinks" bandwagon and @#$% be pushing for a swimming pool that the community can't afford. Lover, on the other hand, has looked out for taxpayers and kept the council from spinning wildly into a monopoly money universe where anything can be purchased on the backs of those of us who work.
Report ViolationThe way I see it is that GRADUATE & isitfriday are just a couple of Democrats nodding along with anything and everything Obama wants while having the audacity to criticise those who, you know, actually think about the issues.
Report ViolationThat's my point owentuckerschmidt....that Lover is barely a "thinker" and certainly not a "do-er".
After seeing him on council he is totally reactionary. He is not driving any issue or proposals, he just reacts to what is presented to him. I want active leadership that will stand up to Edler and his wast of time adventures in aquatic land and sexpressos, and DO something about the issues that are really affecting our community.
owentuckerschmidt,
You know what happens when you "assume" right? You are wrong-I am a conservative republican who didn't vote for Obama. However, I am embarrassed at what some local "haystacks" (ensey, lover, smith, cawley etc.) have done to the local republican party. They are totally embarrassing. They certainly don't represent me or a growing number of other local republicans. There will be a lot of "R's" voting for some "D's" in the upcoming council race...
