YAKIMA, Wash. -- A special filing period has been established for the 12 Yakima County elected positions that so far have failed to attract any candidates.
The positions include those on school boards, city councils, fire district boards and even a sewer district that was unable to attract a single candidate for any of its elected positions.
Under state law, when no one files for a position during the regular candidate filing period, a special filing period is re-opened. That will be August 26-28.
Candidates who file during the special filing period will appear on the November general election ballot only.
Open positions in Yakima County are:
• Naches City Council, Position 3
• Toppenish City Council, Positions 4 and 7
• Wapato City Council, Position 6
• Granger School District, District 5
• Mt. Adams School District, District 5
• Fire Protection District 11, Position 3
• Cowiche Sewer District, Positions 1, 2 and 3
• Naches Park & Recreation District, Districts 3 & 5
