From the Yakima Herald-Republic Online News.
Coinciding with this weekend's festivities in Toppenish is tonight's third annual Tribal Jam, a country, blues, R&B and rock music festival featuring all Native American recording artists.
Headlining is Canadian country singer Shane Yellowbird. With a radio-friendly pop-country sound, Yellowbird's singles include "They're All About You" and "Pickup Truck" off his 2006 debut album "Life Is Calling My Name." The disc earned him three 2007 Aboriginal People's Choice Music Awards: Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year, Best Country CD and Best Music Video.
Also on tonight's bill are singer-songwriter Tracy Bone (a 2009 Juno nominee) and J.C. Campbell; blues and R&B artist Star Nayea; Terry Tsotigh with Indian Soul Men; comedian Charlie Hill; and the Young Bucks from the Yakama Nation Tribal School. The master of ceremonies is actor Adam Beach, who Tribal Jam organizers have been trying to book for a couple years now.
Beach appeared in the films "Smoke Signals," "Windtalkers" and "Flags of Our Fathers," and TV fans will recognize him from his role as Detective Chester Lake on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." Beach also was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his work in the 2007 television miniseries "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee."
Tribal Jam starts at 6 p.m. at the Yakama Nation Legends Casino outdoor arena, 580 Fort Road. Tickets cost $10 and are available through the Legends Casino gift shop, 509-865-8800, ext. 5271, or Ticketmaster, 509-453-7139, www.ticketmaster.com.
