YAKIMA, Wash. -- People who want to purchase the Sunday edition of the Yakima Herald-Republic will need to dig up an extra quarter.
Beginning this Sunday, the single-copy price for the Sunday edition will increase from $1.25 to $1.50.
The increase will not affect home delivery prices.
This is the first price increase, either daily or Sunday, that the Herald-Republic has made in 18 years, Publisher Michael Shepard said. The price increase will help the paper keep up with expenses, which have gone up greatly in recent years.
"We felt that once in 18 years was reasonable," he said. "At $1.50, we're still lower than most Sunday newspapers."
Shepard said that even at the higher price, the paper offers a good value with all the sale inserts and coupons.
"For consumers, there's an opportunity to save more than $1.50," he said.
The paper's Sunday circulation, according to recent figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, was 36,565 as of March 31, a 5.1 percent drop from March 2008.
