YAKIMA, Wash. -- By noon on the first day of this year’s election filing period, Yakima County had itself a contested race — for a seat on the Port of Sunnyside board.

Incumbent St. Clair Woodworth and challenger Jim Grubenhoff will vie for Woodworth’s District 3 seat on the port’s governing board.

It was the only contested race when the Yakima County Auditor’s Office posted its filing week update at 11:42 a.m. today.

The other candidates who filed by that point are:

• state Rep. David Taylor, R-Moxee, who wants to finish the 15th District state House term to which he was appointed;

• Joan Souders, who seeks re-election to the Grandview City Council;

• Diana Jennings, who seeks to finish the Grandview City Council term to which she was appointed;

• Peter Touhey, who seeks re-election to the Harrah Town Council;

• Paul Overby, who seeks re-election to the Selah City Council;

• Kevin Jorgensen, who seeks to finish the Selah City Council term to which he was appointed;

• Blaine Thorington, who seeks re-election to the Toppenish City Council;

• Glenn Bateman, who seeks re-election to the Union Gap City Council;

• Dan Olson, who seeks re-election to the Union Gap City Council;

• Maureen Adkison, who seeks to finish the Yakima City Council term to which she was appointed;

• Mary Place, who seeks election the Yakima City Council seat held by Micah Cawley;

• T.J. Davis, who seeks eletion to the Yakima City Council seat held by Bill Lover;

• Kelley Olwell, who seeks re-election as a Yakima Municipal Court judge;

• Susan Woodward, who seeks re-election as a Yakima Municipal Court judge;

• Jim Scoggins, who seeks election to the Yakima School Board seat held by Raymond Navarro Jr.;

• Elsa Sanches, who seeks re-election to the Mabton School Board;

• Richard Lommers, who seeks re-election to the Wapato School Board;

• Dennis Jones, who seeks re-election to the Zillah School Board;

• Vaugn “Jim” Merritt, who seeks re-election to the Fire District 12 board;

The Auditor’s Office plans to update the filing list about 5 p.m.
