Guilty Pleasures -- Sex advice columnist Dan Savage

As part of next week's Pride Week at Central Washington University, the CWU Diversity Education Center and GALA (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Straight Alliance) are hosting sex advice columnist Dan Savage, the Seattle-based author of the syndicated "Savage Love" column and regular contributor to, among other things, public radio's "This American Life," which is how Guilty Pleasures truly fell for Savage.

An openly gay media pundit, totally committed partner, loving dad to an adopted son and unapologetically snarky columnist, Savage is visiting Central to present "Savage Love Live," the college-speaking-gig version of his column.

(News to you? Well, unless you're one of Savage's fans on Facebook, you probably didn't even know he was coming to Central. Getting the details on this was no easy task, but not to worry, Guilty Pleasures has confirmed with the university that this is, in fact, happening.)

Beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Savage will answer questions from the audience -- asked in person or anonymously on submitted index cards -- in what Guilty Pleasures can only guess will be nothing less than his trademark frank-funny-and-slightly-obscene style.

It'll be great -- mostly because what Guilty Pleasures loves about Savage is that under all the nitty-gritty-makes-you-totally-blush pillow talk, he is sincere with his advice, whether it be to a dad asking how to be supportive of his gay son or to a couple that really wants to spice things up in the bedroom. (And we'll just leave it at that.)

Sure, it might not always be the nicest answer, but it's honest. And let's face it, sometimes the truth about love and sex can be tough, if not totally savage.

* Dan Savage will speak at 8 p.m. Tuesday in CWU's Student Union and Recreation Center Theatre, off Chestnut Street in Ellensburg. Tickets are free and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. A book signing follows.

* Guilty Pleasures is a weekly look at whatever Guilty Pleasures wants to look at.
