CLE ELUM -- Preparation paid off Sunday for a backcountry skier who broke her leg in the Longs Pass area 20 miles northeast of Cle Elum.

Ashlie Solow, 35, of Bellevue was with friends who called 9-1-1 for help shortly after she broke her leg skiing at about 4:45 p.m. They began carrying her off the pass before rescue personnel showed up, according to a Kittitas County Sheriff's Office news release.

Personnel from the sheriff's office and Kittitas County Search and Rescue met her about a mile from the trailhead and transported her back to her vehicle on a rescue litter. She was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle.

"Ashlie and her entire group were well prepared for travel in the backcountry, which contributed to her safely being brought out to her vehicle," the news release said.
