GOLDENDALE, Wash. -- The Maryhill Museum of Art celebrates Founders' Day on Saturday with a number of special activities:

* The Outdoor Sculpture Invitational opens with works by Northwest sculptors Lance Carleton, Matt Cartwright, Gregory Glynn, Tom Herrera, Ed Humpherys, Jay Moody, Francisco Salgado, Julie Speidel, Mike Suri, Jeff Tangen and David Wagner.

A garden walk led by curator Lee Musgrave and participating artists begins at 3:30 p.m. A reception follows.

* 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. -- Take a spin on the twisty Historic Maryhill Loops Road, constructed between 1909-1913, which is not regularly open to the public.

* 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. -- Storyteller Teddy Cole and arts educator Mary Cooper will lead hands-on learning activities in conjunction with Maryhill's special exhibition, "Hudson River School Sojourn: Paintings from the Collection of Dr. Michel Hersen and Victoria Hersen." Storytelling is on the hour. (Family Fun activities and admission to the museum are free for children under 17 with one paid adult admission.)

* 2:30 p.m. -- Historian William G. Robbins presents the Oregon Chautauqua program, "Place and Culture: The Mid-Columbia River."

* 6 p.m. -- Add some Washington and Oregon wines to your cellar through the museum's first wine auction featuring a specially curated collection of wines from the Columbia River Gorge appellation, which runs on both sides of the Columbia from Maryhill to Hood River. There will also be fine art and other distinctive experiences in the auction. Tickets cost $75.

Maryhill is off Washington Scenic Route 14, just west of U.S. Highway 97 near Goldendale. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $2 for ages 6-16 and free for ages 5 and under.

Also, May 30-31 is Maryhill's Free County Weekend for residents in Chelan, Douglas, Ferry, Grant, Kittitas, Okanogan and Yakima counties. All you need to bring is your driver's license to receive complimentary admission.

Throughout Maryhill's season, the museum sets aside one weekend each month to offer free admission to residents of select counties in Oregon and Washington. For a complete list of those weekends, call the museum.
