NACHES -- Fire destroyed a single-story home Monday afternoon about two miles west of Naches along U.S. Highway 12, displacing a family of four, authorities said.
The fire in the 11800 block of U.S. Highway 12 was spotted about 3:30 p.m. by a passing motorist, who knocked on the doors to make sure no one was home, said Lt. Kelli Mansfield of the Naches Fire Department.
The single-story residence, valued at about $60,000, was considered a total loss, Mansfield said.
The American Red Cross was helping the two adults and two teens who live there with temporary lodging.
The Yakima County fire marshal's office was called to investigate, although Mansfield said she did not consider the fire suspicious.
Crews from Naches Heights, Gleed, Highland, Yakima and Selah were called to assist Naches firefighters.
