WAPATO, Wash. — A female driver was likely killed instantly Wednesday evening in a crash that heavily burned her car after it crashed into a power pole on Campbell Road southwest of Wapato, authorities said.
Late Wednesday, state troopers still had not released the victim’s name and were still trying to confirm her identity, said Sgt. Jeff Closner of the Washington State Patrol.
Several callers reported that the southbound driver had been traveling erratically since Interstate 82, Closner said.
The crash happened on Campbell, south of Hoffer Road, after the car went sideways in the road and then struck the power pole on the driver’s side. The car quickly caught fire, badly burning the vehicle and the victim, authorities said.
