Yakima Herald-Republic

YAKIMA, Wash. — The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for parts of Kittitas County in the Ellensburg area.

More rain is expected in the Cascade Mountains today that will cause further concerns about flooding in the days ahead.

The service said both Currier and Reecer creeks north of Ellensburg are reported to be out of their banks and parts of Reecer Creek Road are under water.

Some flooding also has been reported in the Elk Meadows subdivision near Easton, which usually suffers flooding in high water.

The Yakima River at Parker, south of Union Gap, is expected to exceed flood stage briefly early Friday.

The Naches River will not go above flood stage, according to current estimates by the Northwest River Forecast Center.

Matt Pietrusiewicz, road maintenance manager for Yakima County, said urban creeks are in no danger of flooding as of this morning.

He said the ground appears be have the capacity to soak up melting snow.
