YAKIMA — A scattering of rain and snow are heading toward Yakima through the weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory until 10 a.m. today for Yakima. A chance of freezing rain and up to two inches of snow are expected Saturday through Sunday, with daytime highs in the mid to upper 30s.
The forecasted high fo today is 33 degrees with a low of 29.
Precipitation is also expected in the mountain passes this weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the west slopes of the Central Cascades and passes — including Snoqualmie Pass — until 6 a.m. Sunday. A strong and wet Pacific storm will dump 1 to 3 feet of snow by early Sunday, with the heaviest amounts falling above 2,500 feet. The snow will be accompanied by gusty winds across the exposed ridges through Sunday, resulting in blowing or drifting snow at times.
The snow level is expected to rise to near 4,000 feet today before dropping back down to near 2,000 feet on Sunday. Rain is forecaste today and Sunday. Those planning to travel in the area should be prepared for hazardous winter driving conditions.
A winter storm warning is also predicted for the east slopes of the southern Cascades of Washington — including Satus Pass — through 4 p.m., today, according to the National Weather Service. One to 3 inches of snow and rain are expected by this afternoon below the 2,500-foot level.
Travel may be hazardous, especially on bridges, overpasses and secondary roads. Motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution.
