As we gather around our dinner tables this holiday season, it's important to remember that far too many people in the Yakima Valley have little to celebrate.
We don't always see their faces, yet we can't deny their pain.
Unfortunately, the agencies that screen the children, adults and seniors seeking assistance are stretched to their limits.
So they're hoping you can help during this Season of Sharing.
With information provided by local social service organizations, here are those in our community who need your compassion.
The rest is up to you ...
Mom, with six children, (three girls and three boys) is a patient at North Star Lodge. She is on her second round of cancer treatments and is cared for by her mother. Her wish is that her children enjoy a Christmas together even though her disease is progressing.
The oldest girl, age 17, would like make-up, lotions, hairspray, mousse and movies. She needs clothes size 18 pants, size 9 shoes, size 3X shirts and socks.
The second-oldest girl, age 9, likes Hannah Montana hair accessories (ponytail holders, hairspray and mousse), per-fume, lotions and make-up. She needs clothes size 12 pants, slippers and shoes size 3. The oldest boy, age 6, likes Transformers and DVD movies ("Jurassic Park," "Spiderman 3" and "Power Rangers.") He needs clothes size 8-10 husky in pants, size 1 shoes and socks.
The second-oldest boy, age 4, likes Spiderman, Transformers and trains. He needs clothes size 6-8, size 12 shoes and socks.
The youngest girl, age 3, likes Dora princess dolls, books
and would like Dora bedding (twin size). She needs clothes size 3T-4T, shoes size 8 and socks.
The youngest boy, age 1, likes trucks and cars. He needs clothes size 4T, shoes size 6 and socks.
The family also needs plates, silverware, pots/pans, hygiene products, a vacuum cleaner and decorations for their house.
If you would like to help, call Kay Maples at North Star Lodge, 574-3407. North Star Lodge is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
