Better channel your inner vampire, or maybe just drink a couple cups of coffee, if you want to be among the first to see Edward and Bella's forbidden love finally hit the big screen. The first local showings of "Twilight" are at the stroke of midnight tonight.
"I think we wouldn't be doing a midnight showing if we didn't expect a lot of people," Yakima Theatres Inc. general manager Dale Carpenter said Wednesday.
Carpenter said people have been calling for the past six to eight weeks asking about "Twilight," the film adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer. Gaining a near-cult status among females -- from tweens to 40-something women -- "Twilight" is the first of four books in Meyer's teen-romance-vampire series about the love between Bella, a teenage mortal, and Edward, a dashing vampire.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m. today, you can buy tickets for tonight's showings, which will be in the two largest theaters -- each have more than 250 seats -- at Yakima Cinema, 1305 N. 16th Ave. Doors open for the screenings at 11 p.m.
Fans can also catch midnight showings in Sunnyside and Ellensburg.
Tickets for any showing at Sunnyside's Grand Cinemas, 3400 Picard Place, are on sale during normal box office hours. The box office opens at 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and at 11:30 a.m. on weekends.
In Ellensburg, "Twilight" is playing at the Grand Meridian Cinema, 504 E. Mountain View Ave. Call 962-3456, for ticket information.
