YAKIMA -- The driver killed in a one-car crash Saturday has been identified as 24-year-old Mario Martinez Bautista, authorities announced today.
Martinez Bautista was driving a 1990 Geo Prism south on Pom Pom Road near White Swan when he apparently lost control of the car on the gravel surface, the Washington State Patrol said.
Martinez Bautista, a native of Michoacan state in Mexico, had lived in the Yakima Valley for several years. He was most recently working for the Shinn and Sons hop farm in the Toppenish area.
Investigators were not able to identify him at the scene, and it took until today to locate his aunt in Toppenish, patrol Sgt. Ed McAvoy said.
The Yakima County Coroner's Office used fingerprints to identify the man.
