SELAH -- Spontaneous combustion is the likely cause of a fire last night that destroyed about 100 tons of oat hay on Longmire Lane north of Selah, the Selah Fire Department said.
Deputy Chief Gary Hanna said damage is estimated at about $25,000.
The fire at 511 Longmire Lane, about 12 miles north of Selah, began about 6:30 p.m. and firefighters were on the scene until about 11 p.m.
Hanna said firefighters had to tear the stack apart to get at the hot spots.
