Ahtanum View prison to get new superintendent

Yakima Herald-Republic

YAKIMA -- A new superintendent has been appointed for Ahtanum View Corrections Center, the state prison west of Yakima.

Jane Parnell will take over after current Superintendent Terry Antles retires at the end of the month, DOC officials announced in a news release issued Monday.

Parnell is a 21-year DOC employee who has most recently been an associate superintendent at the Washington Corrections Center in Gig Harbor. She began her career as a counselor.

She has a bachelor's degree in sociology from Central Washington University.

Antles, a Yakima native, spent his career here. He started at Ahtanum View in 2005 after 20 years with the agency's community corrections division.

Ahtanum View is the state's only prison for inmates with disabilities and serious medical needs.

The 120-inmate facility opened in 1996.

A separate work-release compound sits next to the medium-security prison at 64th and Occidental avenues.
