'Journey to Wholeness' fair set for today in Yakima

The "Journey to Wholeness 2008" expo takes place in Yakima today.

The event features presentations and information on a variety of alternative healing and wellness services and products, including acupuncture, herbs, aura imaging and massage.

The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Howard Johnson Plaza, 9 N. Ninth St. Admission is $3.

 

Selah Covenant Christian School holding yard sale

The booster club at Selah Covenant Christian School is holding a yard sale today.

The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 560 McGonagle Road. Proceeds will benefit the preschool through fourth-grade school.

Sale items include Ellensburg blue agates, livestock supplies, vintage jewelry, antique furniture, Christmas decorations and clothing, among other items. Coffee and baked goods will also be available.

Missions Conference on tap today at Wiley Union Church

Wiley Union Church invites everyone to its second annual Missions Conference today.

This year's theme is "Till the Whole World Knows."

The event features an open-house format, with information from groups such as Life Choices of Yakima and the Union Gospel Mission. Breakout sessions will also be available.

The conference runs from 1:45 to 5 p.m. at the church, 2711 S. Wiley Road at the corner of South Wiley and Ahtanum roads in West Valley. A potluck will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share.

Blessed Sacrament Parish auction, dinner is tonight

Actor Frank Runyeon is the guest star at Blessed Sacrament Parish's sixth annual auction and dinner tonight.

Runyeon starred for seven years as Steve Andropoulos on "As the World Turns."

Appetizers will be served at 5:30 p.m. A live auction starts at 6:45 p.m. Runyeon takes the stage at 8 p.m.

Tickets cost $25 per person or $180 per table for a table of eight. Attendees must be 21 or older.

'Clothing X-Change' today at First Presbyterian Church

Yakima's First Presbyterian Church is hosting its "Free Family Clothing X-Change" today. The exchange is open to the public. It takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 9 S. Eighth Ave. Items include children's, men's and women's clothing, baby equipment, and books and games.

German Picnic set for Sunday

Toppenish Faith Lutheran Church is hosting its third annual German Picnic on Sunday.

Three homemade quilts will be raffled at the event, which takes place from noon to 3 p.m. at the church, 61801 U.S. Highway 97 in Toppenish.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Proceeds will go to local food banks.

Fall Festival will collect coats

Yakima Adventist Christian School is having a Fall Festival and Car Show to collect coats for kids.

An invitational classic car show will be combined with games, food and prizes. Admission is $1 per person, plus additional fees for some of the activities.

Participants are asked to bring a new or gently used coat for kids, if they are able. The school's goal is to collect 200 coats.

The event takes place from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the school, 1200 City Reservoir Road, off Peck's Canyon Road. Call 966-1933.

 

Pranic healing session planned

Yakima's Unity Spiritual Life Center is hosting a pranic healing session Monday night.

The session features primary pranic healing teachings, and breathing and chakra-activiation exercises. It begins at 6 p.m. at the church, 401 S. Eighth Ave.

'Saint Paul: In His Own Words'

Saint Paul Cathedral Parish will present "Saint Paul: In His Own Words" later this month.

Pope Benedict XVI has dedicated the year stretching from June 28, 2008, to June 29, 2009, as the Year of St. Paul to commemorate the apostle's 2,000th birthday.

Saint Paul Cathedral Parish is holding several programs to celebrate its patron saint, including this dramatic presentation, which takes place at the church, 15 S. 12th Ave., on Oct. 29. A reception will follow in the Assembly Place, located adjacent to the cathedral.

The event is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be collected.

Drumming circle is next week

Drum up some fun at Yakima's Unity Spiritual Life Center next Saturday.

A freestyle drumming circle takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church, 401 S. Eighth Ave. Drop-ins are welcome and extra drums are available if you don't have one.
