“Hidden wells, dirty water” was written by Leah Beth Ward, who has worked for the Yakima Herald-Republic for six years. Before moving to Yakima, Ward, 53, was a reporter at several metropolitan daily newspapers, including the Dallas Morning News, Charlotte Observer and Cincinnati Enquirer.
