Ruiz helps Ike finish 9th at Mukilteo Invite

FEDERAL WAY -- Gabby Ruiz won the 100-yard backstroke, and swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team as Eisenhower finished ninth in the Mukilteo Invitational swimming and diving meet Saturday at the King County Aquatics Center.

Ruiz had a time of
1 minute, 2.83 seconds in winning the 100 back, which also featured a fourth-place finish by Prosser's Mackenzie Gant.

Ike's relay team of Ruiz, Emilie Pleger, Kirsta Bezenek and Laura Ruiz swam a 1:55.51.

Also for Ike, Bezenek was fourth in the 200 individual medley and sixth in the 100 butterfly, Pleger was fourth in the 100 breaststroke, and the Cadets were third in the 200 freestyle relay.

Gant was also eighth in the 200 IM, and Ellensburg's Alyssa Sauriol was seventh in the 200 free.

Prosser finished 17th and Ellensburg was 19th.

Villanueva leads Toppenish to 4th

PASCO -- Ben Villanueva finished second in the boys race to help the Toppenish Wildcats finish fourth in the Big Cross Invitational cross country meet Saturday.

Villanueva had a time of 17 minutes, 56 seconds, trailing only Royal's Ethan Tonnemaker, who clocked a 17:45.

Andrew Mendenhall threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns -- two to Devin Jones -- and he also ran for a score to lead Southridge (4-0. 5-0) on Friday at Zaepfel Stadium.

Clayton Homme also caught a TD pass and returned an interception for a score for the Suns.

Davis' Mitchell Vinsent ran for 81 yards, but the Pirates (0-3, 0-5) threw for only 19 yards and had three passes picked off as they recorded just five first downs in the game.
