YAKIMA -- Silk stockings, flapper dresses, rumble seats and porch swings -- those were different days.

Current students and staff at Davis High School are well aware that a rich history preceded them here in Yakima, which is why they're planning a salute to alumni.

All 100 years of them.

Yakima High School, built during the early part of last century, was completed in 1908. Davis High School now occupies the site.

The current occupants will be celebrating 100 years of the high school Oct. 17, during the Davis homecoming football game. All alumni are invited.

Events begin at 7 p.m. at Zaepfel Stadium with a free barbecue for alums, followed by the game at 7:30 p.m. During halftime, more festivities honoring a century of graduates are planned.

Ryan McDaniel, Davis assistant principal and chairman of the celebration, said, "We're hoping to find alums from the 1930s, '40s and '50s for special recognition."

The school is also looking for volunteers to help with the barbecue and halftime events, he noted.
