Rivers will run high and fast this weekend

Yakima Herald-Republic

Those heading to the water for relief from this weekend's projected triple-digit temperatures should be aware area rivers will be running high and fast.

No flooding hazards exist, but the Naches and Yakima rivers will be about a foot below flood stage at several locations, according to the Northwest River Forecast Center.

The Naches River at Naches will crest at just below 16 feet on Monday. Flood stage is 17 feet.

The Naches River at Cliffdell, northwest of Yakima, will reach about 29.5 feet. Flood stage is 31 feet.

A crest of 8.5 feet is forecast for the Yakima River at Cle Elum where flood stage is 9 feet.

The National Weather Service said early this afternoon temperatures between 100 degrees and 105 degrees are likely on Saturday and Sunday, making them the hottest days so far this summer.

A strong ridge of high pressure building over the region is the cause.
