YAKIMA - Carolyn Jean Sudmeier, 76, of Yakima, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Yakima Regional Medical Center.
Jean was born July 1, 1932, at Mondamin, Iowa, to Dwight and Teresa Spooner. Jean attended schools there and graduated from St. Catherine's School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska as a Registered Nurse in 1952. She met Henry J. Sudmeier and the couple were married on November 26, 1955. Jean traveled west with Hank where he began his dental practice in Yakima.
Jean worked at St. Elizabeth's (Providence) Medical Center for 22 years as a RN and later as an administrator.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, older brother Philip and sister Margaret. Jean is survived by her husband of 53 years, Hank, children Michael, Patrick (his wife Pamela), Mark, and Ann Grimm, three grandchildren, Laura Sudmeier, Joshua Grimm and Mia Rose Sudmeier, sisters Rita Whorley and Lois Carmody of Omaha, and brother Roger Spooner of Mondamin.
Jean will always be remembered as a loving wife, understanding mother, grandmother and wonderful friend and confidant of many.
Vigil service will be 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 in the Chapel of Holy Family Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Private concluding services will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jean, may be made to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance or to Holy Family Catholic Church.
