YAKIMA - Reed Riley, 80, of Yakima, Washington passed away June 29, 2009 surrounded by family members.
Reed was born to Rube and Lucy Riley October 27, 1928 in Sundance, Wyoming. After graduating from Yakima High School at the age of sixteen he attended the University of Washington. He then served in the United States Army Air Force.
Reed spent most of his working life with McCann Erickson Advertising in San Francisco, Honolulu and Los Angeles, retiring as a Vice President.
Reed was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of various advertising associations. He was a member of the Montgomery Street Motor Cycle Club in San Francisco where he attended tuxedo balls and annual rides to Death Valley. He made many lifelong friends through his motorcycle association.
After retirement from McCann Erickson, Reed returned to Yakima to be close to family. He purchased a small idyllic ranch in the boxed-in Cowiche Canyon where he loved entertaining family and friends and gardening. He enjoyed helping his niece and nephew at their business, Ron Britt and Associates. He enjoyed working for them for over 20 years.
Reed's other interests were golf, motorcycle riding, snow mobile riding and playing softball. He was constantly trying to improve his golf game and started an annual Riley family tournament that has been played for many years at Sun Tides Golf Course. Reed was a voracious reader and enjoyed traveling both of which helped him to conquer the daily New York Times and USA Today crossword puzzles.
Reed was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dennis Riley, sisters Rose Marie Peterson and Janet Ulrich and nephew David Paul Peterson. He is survived by his loving brothers Gaylen of Naches, Dan (Jeano) of Whidbey Island and John (Barbara) of Ellensburg. Reed will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews: Kathie (Ron) Britt, Mike (Kate) Peterson, Rube (Kim) Peterson, Rebecca (Howard) Broadbent, Ken (Carol) Ulrich, Pam Young, Sally (Alan) Cramer, Terri (Tyler) Brown and David (Sandi) Riley. Reed was also a wonderful uncle to 20 great and 10 great-great nieces and nephews.
Reed will be remembered by his family and friends with gratitude and deep love. Reed's family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Izzy's Adult Family Home where he spent 9 months and Chandler House, which was home to Reed for the last two years.
A celebration of Reed's life will be held July 5th beginning at 10 AM going through the afternoon for friends and family.
Donations in Reed's name may be made to The Alzheimer's Association Western Washington and Central Washington State Chapter at 12721 30th Ave. N.E. Suite 101 Seattle, WA 98125 Attn: Development Department.
