SELAH - Chuck Dorich, age 77, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2009 at Yakima Regional Medical Cardiac Center.
Chuck was born to Charles G. and Cleo (Connell) Dorich on December 21, 1931 in Seattle. He spent his early years in Roslyn and Cle Elum, and graduated from Cle Elum High School. He attended and then graduated with a teaching degree from Central Washington College of Education (CWU) in 1954, and also received his military commission into the Air Force. Chuck married his high school sweet heart, Irene Bergamini in September 1954. He and Irene spent the next 4 years completing his military service, primarily stationed in England.
They returned to Washington in 1958, and Chuck began his teaching career in Selah, where he remained until his retirement after 31 years. Chuck was a History Teacher and Coach for the football, basketball and golf teams at Selah High School. He had a passion and gift for teaching, whether he was in the classroom or on the field. He inspired many students throughout the years.
Together Chuck and Irene raised three children. Chuck loved his family deeply and believed his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was so proud of his children, their spouses and his grandchildren.
Chuck had a strong Christian faith. He was a compassionate and caring man. He will be missed greatly and will always have a special place in our hearts.
Chuck loved sports! He was an avid sports enthusiast his entire life. He earned 11 letters while in high school, and played baseball for Central. He was a long-time Husky fan and supporter. He was a member of the Yakima Elks Lodge 318 and spent countless hours at the golf course. Chuck enjoyed spending time in the mountains, cutting wood, camping and fishing with his family and friends over the years.
His parents, Charles G. and Cleo Dorich, preceded him in death.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irene; three children, Doug (Traci) Dorich of Selah, Debbie (Duncan) McAllister of Newcastle, Cheryl Dorich of Selah, and four grandchildren, Amanda and Evan Dorich, Blake and Chase McAllister.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life Service will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Selah at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 15, 2009. A reception and lunch will follow at the Parish Activity Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Yakima Union Gospel Mission, OLL Catholic Church, or a charity of your choice.
The Dorich family would like to thank all of the medical staff in the ICU at Yakima Regional Medical Cardiac Center, Dr. Sharma and Suzanne Ramm, ARNP, and Dr. Emmans, Jr. for their excellent care and support over the past weeks.
