Darold Edward Pahrman Johann

TOPPENISH - Darold Edward Pahrman Johann, 61, a member of the Yakama Nation, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at his residence in Toppenish. He was born in Bellingham, WA. on July 21, 1947 to Frank and Elizabeth (Pahrman) Whitefoot.
At an early age, Darold's family moved to the Yakima Valley where he graduated from White Swan High School in 1965. He entered the U.S. Army in June 1971 and served four years during the Vietnam War. Darold was honorably discharged in July 1975 as a Specialist Fifth Class. In August 1975, he began his career in law enforcement with the Toppenish Police Department and later joined the Yakama Nation Tribal Police, retiring as a Lieutenant in December 2001. Darold was a member of the L.E.A.D. Task Force and served as a Granger Police Department Representative since February 2002.
Darold is survived by his wife, Merri Johann, who dearly loved him and will miss him always; daughters, Kim & Anges Johann of California, Jennifer (David) Lee of Zillah and Traci (Juan) Gou of Texas; son, Daniel (Elisabeth) Johann of Toppenish; four grandchildren, Julia Lee, Ana Sofia Gou, Marcus Gou and Christian Gou; six brothers and their families, Mike Johann of Alaska, Frank Whitefoot of Harrah, Greg and Jimmy Whitefoot of White Swan, Jonathon Whitefoot of Idaho and Anthony (Roanne) Whitefoot of Harrah; one sister and family, Edna Whitefoot of Granger; and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank and Elizabeth Whitefoot; his uncle, Sonny, and many other family members.
The family extends a special thank you to Chief Robert Perales of the Granger Police Department; Doug, Al and other past and present members of the L.E.A.D. Task Force; and Karen Gamache at Yakima Regional Hospice.
Viewing will be 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, June 29 & 30, 2009 at Merritt Funeral Home, Wapato. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 1st at Reservation Community Memorial Park.
