Bert L Reese

Bert L Reese

Bert Leroy Reese passed away on June 14, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. Bert's life was spent giving to others. He was a dedicated educator. He helped Ukrainian immigrants. He was a freeholder, and volunteer at elections, campaigns, and teen shelters. Bert gave generously to charities, and the Democratic Party.

His wife Katsuyo, Kathy English, Charlie English, Mary Young, David Young, Laryn, and brother Jim survive him. He loved the Reese and Takagi families as well as his life long friendships with Boyd and Iris Page and family, and Carl and Phyllis Opgaard and family; and many others whom he held dear.

Bert also leaves behind many friends and pals from his days at Yakima Senior High School (now Davis) and the youth group at Yakima's First Presbyterian Church. He lettered in track and cross country and was a member of the National Honor Society at YHS. He was a graduate of the University of Washington and was proficient in the Russian language.

He especially cherished experiences in the summers at the church's Camp Ghormley, as well as hiking in the Cascades with his close friend, Chuck Millard, while they were counselors at the camp during college days. One notable episode involved encountering two rattlesnakes within less than an hour, high in the rocks of Bethel Ridge.

Bert was 81 years of age at the time of his death and was a retired history teacher in the Edmonds School District. Memorial services will be held at the Washington Cathedral, 12300 Redmond-Woodinville Rd. in Redmond, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 18th.
