ANDY SAWYER
ANDY SAWYER/Yakima Herald-Republic Region 7 Fire Investigation Council and students from Perry Tech monitor controlled burning of plastic fruit bins in Gleed on April 9. The experiment measured temperatures generated by burning nine wooden and nine plastic fruit bins as well as the nature and behavior of each of the fires. Fire investigators hope to use the date collected to advise warehouses on the best way to store bins and firefighters on how best to fight the fires. The poles to the right of the controlled burn are fitted with thermal sensors measuring heat at different distances, and were installed and monitored by students in the instrumentation program at Perry Tech.
