A trade publication called Dairy Herd Management published a story yesterday summarizing research by WSU professors and a Monsanto scientist who found dairies are much more environmentally friendly today than they were in 1944. Those who would romanticize the ‘40s are just plain wrong, the authors say.
But Jean Mendoza, a nurse from White Swan, has asked the National Academy of Science to repudiate the claims of the authors, first published earlier this year in the Journal of Animal Science.
Citing U.S. Geological Survey research, Mendoza says the amount of water required today to remove manure from dairies is more than four times what it was in 1950. She maintains that the authors failed to consider the amount of water needed by modern dairies to manage their manure output.

Where was your warning for the terrrible Youtube video you posted a few weeks ago? Do you not see any dispute to that topic? You have quotes in this article from a legit college profesor compared to a bunch of morons rambling on Youtube.
Report ViolationThe incredibly powerful American Dairy Association and the Washington State Dairy Federation endow "chairs" at many universities in a vain attempt to promote pseudo-science and propaganda. Dairymen also employ an army of morally compromised agriculture consultants or agronomists for sale to the highest bidder. I encourage anyone interested in knowing the truth about un-regulated CAFO air and water pollution to take a drive through Mabton or Sunnyside with the windows down and see if you can stand it. A big lie repeated by these parasites a thousand times is still a big lie. Some day these monster dairies and feedlots will be forced to comply with existing law by the federal government. That day is coming soon.

From LBW: There's been some confusion about why I posted a mention of Jean Mendoza's letter questioning the research. Jean Mendoza sent me a copy of her letter without knowing I had already seen the Dairy Herd Management article explaining the research. I mentioned her letter simply to let readers know there is some dispute over this topic.
