The comments are coming in on my recent column, and graffitibrad, whose earlier comment was actually mentioned in the column itself, made another interesting one:
... I guess I really don't care if Tony Rizzo wants to build more Subway shops in Yakima; it's just the original post about the new restaurant in downtown Yakima was made into such a big deal and when told it was a Subway that was a HUGE disappointment.
Personally if I was a business man and had some cash I would invest into a seafood place in Yakima like Ivars or Long John Silvers. Since Skippers closed down we do not have many cheap places to go for fast food seafood.
Thanks for another good comment, graffitibrad. Let me know if you ever decide to run a new franchise.
I also wanted to respond to the point of “making a big deal” about the proposed downtown restaurant. At the time of the post, I was just as clueless as everyone else at what that restaurant would be. All I knew was that it would be a “national chain restaurant.”
Here’s another comment made by heywood:
Competition keeps all the players honest and, if anything, the consumer ends up winning. It will be probably be obvious which companies truly appreciate their customers.
Good point.
That comment also got me thinking about the different coffee shops that are located within the downtown area: Essencia, North Town Coffeehouse, Le’ Cup, and Bohemia Cafe. Buhrmaster Baking Co. and the Market Place Deli also sells espresso drinks. And if you want to extend it to the coffee stands, you’ve got Dreamgirls and Coffee Cravings. Each coffee shop/espresso stand has to offer something to stand out, which has given the consumer more variety. I will expand on this in a future blog entry.
