YAKIMA, Wash. -- Wow, I am overwhelmed by the number of comments on the blog and on Shop Talk’s Facebook page expressing disappointment about the likelihood of Subway opening at the corner of Second Street and Yakima Avenue.
But for those of you unhappy about the news, there are other new restaurants coming.

This morning, I finally got to meet the team behind Geppetto’s Italian Bistro & Deli — Craig Paddock, Dick Paddock, Max Irwin, Lindsay Park and Tracy Vickers. The new restaurant just off 32nd and Summitview avenues is expected to open by July 9. I wasn’t able to get a whole lot of details as the team was meeting, but it was clear they were pretty excited about their new venture.

I also managed to make a stop at Sage, the new restaurant and wine bar opening at 40th and Washington avenues. I went there just in time to see a training of some of their waiters. I also got to meet general manager Michelle Euteneier, who managed to managed all the pre-opening tasks while caring for Henry, whom she gave birth to earlier this month.
Euteneier managed to take a few moments to a quick update. The restaurant is still in line to open by June 29, but for those who are super curious, the restaurant will offer a reservation-only sneak peek from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Reservations can be made by calling 509-853-1057.
Another thing the restaurant also hopes to have running this weekend is online reservations via Open Table. A quick look at the site and it seems that there aren’t any other Yakima restaurants on there, so it will be interesting to see how it works for Sage.

Another Subway is not needed!! The local franchise doesn't even fully participate in the national promotions!! They are the cheapest, stingiest business in town. They don't provide high-chairs for families to eat there! We really need more of that in Yakima!
