YAKIMA, Wash. -- Keep casting those votes!
One week into U.S. Cellular’s Calling All Communities campaign, Selah’s Robert Lince Elementary School is ranked No. 20.
It’s the only school in Washington state to make the top 20 list.
“It’s exciting to see a school from Washington on the Top 20 list,” Kim Sebastian, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Washington, said in a recent news release. “Because the leaders are changing every day, the campaign is still wide open for every school to have a chance. There is plenty of time for more Washington schools to make their way to the top.”
Since the program’s launch last week, thousands of school supporters have visited U.S. Cellular stores to pick up codes allowing them to vote online for their favorite school.
So far, 11 of the top 20 schools are from communities with fewer than 10,000 residents. In all, more than 1,600 public and private schools have received votes.
The leading school — Seymour High School in Seymour, Tenn. — has received 214 votes. Voting ends Jan. 15.
The 10 schools with the most votes will each receive $100,000.
Voters must 18 or older. No purchase is necessary to participate. The winning schools will be announced in February 2010.
The campaign, in its second year, invites communities from around the country to rally around their favorite schools to share $1 million.
