Josh Blue is a funny, funny man

YAKIMA, Wash. -- It’s hard to write about standup comic Josh Blue without saying pretty high up that he’s got cerebral palsy; his talent for finding humor in that physical disability is a big part of his act.

But to think of him as “that comic with cerebral palsy” sells him woefully short. Josh Blue is just a very, very funny guy. And, cerebral palsy aside, he’s an overwhelmingly normal 30-year-old dude.

I spent a half-hour on the phone this afternoon with Blue, who’s playing a Camp Prime Time benefit in Yakima Nov. 21. And he’s as likable in conversation as he is on stage. The story from that interview will run in the Nov. 20 edition of On Magazine, so watch for that.

In the meantime, you might think about buying a ticket to the benefit. It’s $50, but that includes dinner and the opportunity to participate in live and silent auctions. It all benefits Camp Prime Time, which provides outdoor recreation for children with disabilities and seriously ill children and their families. For tickets or more information, call 509-248-2854.

Plus, like I said, Blue is for-real funny. He won NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” in 2006, and a quick review of YouTube clips convinced me that this guy has an original, incredibly likeable comic voice. Check out the clip below and see for yourself. Also: Note that some of the YouTube clips, not the one below but some of them, feature adult language. So, you know, parental guidance is advised.
